Strengthening Teacher and Research Education in Natural Sciences and Mathematics

Overall objective:

  • The broader development goal to which the project is designed to contribute – at a national and sectorial level
  • To strengthen the capacity of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (FCNM) to support the Government of Mozambique in addressing the quality demands for secondary education teachers in Mathematics and Natural Sciences countrywide through the provision of sufficient quality pre and in-service teacher education and training in these subjects

Specific objectives:

  • Strengthening capacity of FCNM to develop and deliver Master programmes for education with specialisation in Natural Sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) and Mathematics in order to address effectively national demands for quality education;
  • Strengthening capacity of FCNM to develop and deliver pre-service programmes for future teachers in mathematics and Natural Sciences at all its branches in Mozambique, which are based on innovative teaching methodologies and include practical modules in didactics and pedagogical skills. (This concerns teacher education for future ESG teachers);
  • Strengthening capacity of FCNM to develop and deliver quality in-service programmes for teachers in Mathematics and Natural Sciences, which are based on innovative teaching methodologies and include practical modules in didactics and pedagogical skills. (This concerns the outreach programs for ESG teachers to improve formal qualifications for Secondary Schools Teachers who require further in-service training.
